Who are the Current Professional Athletes with the Highest PeekScores?

What is PeekScore?: PeekScore is a rank from 1 to 10, assigned to every person. The higher someone’s score, the “more important” they are on the web. In calculating your PeekScore and updating it often, PeekYou takes into account your known presence and activity on the Internet, including but not limited to; your blogging, participation in social networks, the number of your friends, followers, or readers, the amount of web content you create, and your prominence in the news. For first time visitors a more in-depth explanation of what the PeekScore is, and how to increase your own, can be found by clicking through here.

It’s been a while since we’ve done a list like this, but the good folks over at Forbes suggested this, and it seemed like a great idea. Forbes recently featured their list of who they determined to be 2013′s Most Influential Athletes (which you can read all about here). They asked that we compile our own list of the athletes with the highest PeekScores, for the purposes of comparing their list to ours. This sounded like a fun and perhaps even illuminating undertaking.

What PeekScores measure are digital impacts and presences; or “digital footprints,” as we call them (a concept you will find explained in brief in the header above, and more in depth here). The names on this fairly surprising list speak loudly and clearly to nothing so much as the truly international nature of the Web. Fewer than half the names on the list are Americans, and a sizable portion play a sport which — while the most popular sport in the world by a healthy margin — is quite famously all but ignored in the states.

The breakdown, for those keeping score, is:

7 soccer players
5 basketball players
4 tennis players
2 race car drivers
1 boxer
1 cricketer
1 snowboarder
1 golfer
1 sprinter
1 swimmer
1 NFL football player

While we’re certain this list is bound to irk some and tickle others (although we remind you that this list reflects no opinions whatsoever), we suggest that you share your feelings in the comment section here and let us know all about it, either way.

A simple sports list for the PeekScore readership. We decided to see how the world class linksmen in the PGA’s current top 10 measure up in the digital footprint department. We’re not ranking, nor assessing, nor commenting on their golf skills here, nor even the size of their celebrities or endorsements, but instead on their prominence here on the web, as outline above and more in depth here.

Are there any golfers who you would have thought would have a higher PeekScore? Or how about a lower one? Leave us a comment and let us know what you think.

The Digital Footprints of March Madness’ Top Players

What is PeekScore?: PeekScore is a rank from 1 to 10, assigned to every person. The higher someone’s score, the “more important” they are on the web. March means different things to different folks. For those of us living in the northern hemisphere it means the onset of spring, for some it means St. Patrick’s revelry, and for strange others perhaps a bout of Ides of March dread. But for a great many Americans – both those with office pools and without (but particularly those with) – it means March Madness, the NCAA’s annual championship basketball tournament.

In honor of this year’s dose of this annual brouhaha, we’ve decided to take a look at the online presences of the kids whose blood, sweat, and tears make the whole thing possible. We can’t compare the teams’ respective abilities on the court, nor can we compare the academic qualities of the assorted colleges involved. What we can and will do, though, is take the top players involved and put them through their PeekScore paces; comparing their respective digital footprints (an explanation of which can be found above, or more in depth by clicking through here), and assessing their impacts here in the Internet’s ether.

Any feelings on this year’s tournament? Any teams for whom you’re rooting? Let us know in the comments.

Super Bowl XLVII: The PeekScores of the San Francisco 49ers’ Top Players (and Head Coach)

This here is one of a pair of entries, assessing the online impacts of the most prominent individuals comprising the two teams who will be facing off against each other in Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans on February 3, for Super Bowl XLVII. In this entry we look at Colin Kaepernick, head coach Jim Harbaugh, and other current top players for the San Francisco 49ers.

In keeping with the sorts of things we often disclaim, we stress that this is not a commentary on the athletic prowess, wealth, generosity, or manliness of any of the fellows listed here. This is a measurement and comparison of their digital footprints, as quantified on our PeekScore scale (an explanation of which can be found above, or in more detail by clicking here).

We’ll leave it to the sports experts – both armchair and actual – to opine on who’s better or stronger, or who wants it more. This game is noteworthy for the brother vs. brother conflict being played out between the 49ers’ and the Ravens’ head coaches; Jim and John Harbaugh. The clear victor in that battle is evident by looking below. If you want to see how the other Harbaugh is doing here in cyberspace, check out his PeekScore and those of the Ravens’ top players here.
