The PeekScores of the World’s 10 Best Restaurants’ Head Chefs

What is PeekScore?: PeekScore is a rank from 1 to 10, assigned to every person. The higher someone’s score, the “more important” they are on the web. In calculating your PeekScore and updating it often, PeekYou takes into account your known presence and activity on the Internet, including but not limited to; your blogging, participation in social networks, the number of your friends, followers, or readers, the amount of web content you create, and your prominence in the news. For first time visitors a more in-depth explanation of what the PeekScore is, and how to increase your own, can be found by clicking through here.

San Pellegrino has just released its annual list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2013. To both the actually knowledgeable as well as the dilettante gourmands and would-be globetrotters scattered across cyberspace, the list apparently contained some big surprises. We’ll leave opining on all of that to the appropriate sources. What we’ve done here, to mark the release of this auspicious list, is take the head chef from each of the top 10 restaurants and put him through his PeekScore paces, and then pit him against the others to see how they all measure up, digital footprint-wise.

This is not a measurement of their qualities as chefs nor is it even a commentary on their fame in the world at large. Simply, this is a look at the presences and impacts of each of these men here in cyberspace.

The Digital Footprints of the Biggest Celebrity Chefs

What is PeekScore?: PeekScore is a rank from 1 to 10, assigned to every person. The higher someone’s score, the “more important” they are on the web. In calculating your PeekScore and updating it often, PeekYou takes into account your known presence and activity on the Internet, including but not limited to; your blogging, participation in social networks, the number of your friends, followers, or readers, the amount of web content you create, and your prominence in the news.

Over the past decade, the ever-rising popularity of things such as cable television’s Food Network and the internet’s Epicurious.com have birthed a vibrant sub-culture of amateur bon vivants. These self-proclaimed “foodies” often have their cameras at the ready for every meal, and are quick to tweet and blog of every freshly visited eatery, and each new gastronomic adventure, as though they’re somehow remarkable for enjoying things that taste good.

Beyond these hardcore enthusiasts exists an even larger group of armchair gourmands; especially diletante foodies content to sit in their living rooms and absent-mindedly gaze upon flickering images of presumably good food being prepared in a way that they’re told is well. As a result, over the past decade, our culture has gone from one where most people could maybe name one or two chefs of any description (say, Julia Child and Col. Sanders) to one where children dream of Mario Batali the way they might have done the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers once upon a time.

Okay, that last bit is obviously false, but it is true that ours is now a culture where many chefs – some charismatic, some photogenic, some genuinely great – are household names. We decided to take 20 of the most famous of these men and women, and see how they measure up in the digital footprint department. This is not a measurement of their qualities as chefs or broadcasters, nor is it a commentary on their fame in the world at large. Simply, this is a look at how much these folks are representing themselves and/or being spoken of here in cyberspace, dotted with its innumerable food blogs and websites as it is.

Who are some of your favorite celebrity chefs? Who did we leave out? Let us know in the comments.
