The PeekScores of the CEOs of the Top 50 Public Companies

What is PeekScore?: PeekScore is a rank from 1 to 10, assigned to every person. The higher someone’s score, the “more important” they are on the web. In calculating your PeekScore and updating it often, PeekYou takes into account your known presence and activity on the Internet, including but not limited to; your blogging, participation in social networks, the number of your friends, followers, or readers, the amount of web content you create, and your prominence in the news. For first time visitors a more in-depth explanation of what the PeekScore is, and how to increase your own, can be found by clicking through here.

This newest addition to the PeekScore blog does precisely as its subject line claims. It’s comparing not the successes, failures, nor fortunes of these men and women – the CEOs of the top 50 publicly traded companies – but instead their respective prominences and impacts here in cyberspace (their “digital footprints,” as we like to call them, an explanation of which can be found in brief in the disclaimer above or more in depth by clicking through here).

Which of the Past Year’s Top-Paid Actors has the Largest PeekScore?

What is PeekScore?: PeekScore is a rank from 1 to 10, assigned to every person. The higher someone’s score, the “more important” they are on the web. In calculating your PeekScore and updating it often, PeekYou takes into account your known presence and activity on the Internet, including but not limited to; your blogging, participation in social networks, the number of your friends, followers, or readers, the amount of web content you create, and your prominence in the news. For first time visitors a more in-depth explanation of what the PeekScore is, and how to increase your own, can be found by clicking through here.

In a move intended to – according to The Guardian“capitalize on the Top Gun star’s imminent divorce” (meaning Tom Cruise‘s), Forbes Magazine released their annual Highest Paid Actors list a bit early this year. We were happy to see it, as our readers do enjoy talk of famous people and gross sums of cash (and ideally talk of these things together).

As Forbes’ list deals with ratings grabbing celebrities and an objective way of comparing their various worths and accomplishments in the flesh and blood realm, we’ve decided to do with Forbes’ list as we do and see how these superstars compare – in terms of their impacts and impressions – here in the world of the virtual (comparing their digital footprints, as it were; a brief explanation of which can be found above, and a more in depth one can be found by clicking through here).

The man topping our list will surprise few, but what of the remainder? Any thoughts on our rankings, or on what these gentlemen are paid? Let us know in the comments.

A Comparison of the Online Lives of the World’s Top-Paid Athletes

What is PeekScore?: PeekScore is a rank from 1 to 10, assigned to every person. The higher someone’s score, the “more important” they are on the web. In calculating your PeekScore and updating it often, PeekYou takes into account your known presence and activity on the Internet, including but not limited to; your blogging, participation in social networks, the number of your friends, followers, or readers, the amount of web content you create, and your prominence in the news. For first time visitors a more in-depth explanation of what the PeekScore is, and how to increase your own, can be found by clicking through here.

The inspiration for today’s list could not be simpler: Below are the ten athletes who were highest paid during this past year. In keeping with the kinds of things we get up to here at the PeekScore blog, we’ve decided to see to what degree the respective compensations of these individuals corresponds to their various visibilities, activities, impacts, and presences here in cyberspace (in other words, we’re assessing their digital footprints; a brief explanation of which can be found above, and a more in depth one can be found by clicking through here). We already know that in the case of some of the individuals listed below, there are those out there who don’t believe their athletic abilities alone have gone very far in justifying their arguably unseemly, and objectively handsome, paydays. But what of these athletes’ efforts and abilities to reach their spotty, slouchy lessers out here in the ever-expanding, in both size and import, online realm? The PeekScores provide their answers, scientifically and objectively as always.

Who do you like on this list? Who would you have preferred to see on this list? Who do you believe should be the top earning athletes? Comment and let us know.

The 50 Stand-Up Comedians with the Largest Digital Footprints

What is PeekScore?: PeekScore is a rank from 1 to 10, assigned to every person. The higher someone’s score, the “more important” they are on the web. In calculating your PeekScore and updating it often, PeekYou takes into account your known presence and activity on the Internet, including but not limited to; your blogging, participation in social networks, the number of your friends, followers, or readers, the amount of web content you create, and your prominence in the news. For first time visitors a more in-depth explanation of what the PeekScore is, and how to increase your own, can be found by clicking through here.

This is a survey we’ve been wanting to do for a long while, and the time just seemed right. We went through the hundreds and hundreds of stand-up comedians PeekYou has indexed, to determine which 50 are currently the most prominent and impactful here in cyberspace. This isn’t a gauge nor a comparison of their successes, and surely we are offering no commentary on the quality of their jokes. This is a look at the impressions each of these men and women have made and are making on the Web (their digital footprints, if you will, a concept explained in brief in the disclaimer above and more in-depth at the blog entry you can find by clicking through here).

We decided to keep it to active, performing stand-up comics, or at least those who have been active as stand-ups in more recent years. Some notable and important living stand-ups who are missing include Woody Allen, David Letterman, Jim Carrey, Albert Brooks, and more notably Steve Martin and Eddie Murphy – two of the most popular stand-ups who ever lived – as it seemed that once we started including those who hadn’t done stand-up in decades, we’d be forced to include every actor or performer who’d ever done stand-up at all (and those ranks number quite a few). We tried to keep it to those who are at least somewhat, or recently, active as live performers.

Any favorite comics you would have expected to see below? We have the full top 100 comics list compiled, and may be posting it in its entirety shortly. Many of those comics you believe missing from this list may just be bubbling under the top 50. Let us know if you want to see that 100.

Edited to add (8/12/12): Many commenters have come to the blog over the past day or so to make their assorted opinions on the list known (“lame list,” said one charming user, another asked if the list was compiled by a box of hair, which – while the meaning is not quite clear to us – we’re sure implies something bad). Two commenters, fairly enough, noted the absence of Joe Rogan from the list. He was surely involved in our original compiling, but simply at that time had a PeekScore which found him just out of the top 50. Upon receiving these comments, however, we checked again to see that Rogan’s score as of this writing – three weeks past when the list was initially compiled – finds him in the top 50. To minimize the quite possible wrath we might incur from additional readers, we’ve revised the list to now include Joe Rogan with his up-to-date PeekScore (no strangers to Internet commenters as we are, we’re already certain this will satisfy few if any).

Which Sports Journalist has the Highest PeekScore?

What is PeekScore?: PeekScore is a rank from 1 to 10, assigned to every person. The higher someone’s score, the “more important” they are on the web. In calculating your PeekScore and updating it often, PeekYou takes into account your known presence and activity on the Internet, including but not limited to; your blogging, participation in social networks, the number of your friends, followers, or readers, the amount of web content you create, and your prominence in the news. For first time visitors a more in-depth explanation of what the PeekScore is, and how to increase your own, can be found by clicking through here.

With this here PeekScore blog entry, we are pitting a group of journos against one another in a contest worthy of those they make their own respective breads and butters writing and/or broadcasting about. These sports journalists – currently the most prominent on the World Wide Web – are now virtual athletes in the arena of digital footprints (a concept explained in brief in the disclaimer above, and more in depth by clicking through here). Yes, the analogy is clumsy and imperfect, but you’ve got to put something in these intro paragraphs.

The once Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (and its affiliated endeavors), or ESPN as it’s now exclusively known, perhaps as was likely dominates the list. But all in all, we do think this is a surprising group, and the results were surely different than we’d anticipated.

What are your thoughts? Who would you like to have seen on the list? Let us know in the comments.
